Abstract Review of the NSPCC's helpline service in 2012/2013. Looks at the impact of the work of the helpline and how the NSPCC supports the wider child protection system. Key findings include: an increase of 15% in contacts from 2011/12; 52% of contacts resulted in referrals to children's services and/or the police; neglect was the leading cause for referrals (29%), followed by physical abuse (20%), sexual abuse (16%) and emotional abuse (13%); and in cases where concerns warranted a referral, 48% of people had waited more than a month before calling the helpline.
