We've appointed a new Director of Communications

Devia Gurjar, formerly Chief Charity and External Affairs Officer at learning disability charity Hft, will bring a wealth of experience to the role.


We have appointed Devia Gurjar, formerly Chief Charity and External Affairs Officer at learning disability charity Hft, as our new Executive Director of Marketing and Communications.

With an impressive track record spanning senior marketing, brand and communications roles across the charity sector for over 15 years, Devia brings a wealth of experience to the NSPCC team.

In her role at Hft, Devia led a comprehensive review of Hft’s brand to align with the rollout of a new organisational strategy, and she has also led on several awareness raising campaigns involving children at Barnardo’s and Girlguiding – fantastic and timely experience to bring to the NSPCC as we expand our own brand awareness.

Devia’s track record of using marketing and communications to influence income generation, policy and public affairs and building strategic partnerships will also be of huge value as we campaign to make sure everyone child feels heard, every child is safe online and that everyone plays their part to keep children safe.

Prior to joining Hft, Devia held director level and senior strategic marketing and communications roles at Barnados, Girlguiding and RNIB.

Devia said: "I am honoured and delighted to be joining the talented team at the NSPCC. Every child deserves to feel safe, listened to and supported, and I feel privileged to be able to support the NSPCC's long-term strategy, ‘Preventing Child Abuse Together’, to shape a different future for children.

“We can, and must, do better to make our society a safer place for children. The saying 'it takes a village to raise a child' couldn't be more true for my own children and I feel passionate about compelling communications that can inspire more people to understand the part we all play in transforming our society to prevent child abuse together.

“I am looking forward to joining my colleagues to work with children and young people, dedicated volunteers and supporters to expand the charity's impact in the future."

Devia will step into the role on 1 August, following David Hamilton’s departure for a new role at the British Film Institute. Until then, the position will be filled by Acting Director of Marketing and Communications, James Barker.
